I am having concerns with the schools tardiness and absences policies for SCC. The school states in the school handbook article (AR 2.3.2) that attendance requirements are determined by the course instructor. And students who do not meet the attendance requirement as determined by the course instructor may be withdrawn.
After being in the United States Marine Corps for four years, their policies and standards on being absent or late we're not tolerated. Their standards weren't just up to who was in charge of you or where you were stationed. They were set standards for the whole Marine Corps and everyone abided by them. So I wonder why I pay a college thousands of dollars and the teachers all get to make the rules on attendance and absences and they are all different.
In one of my classes I have here at SCC, the teacher states if you miss three classes whatever grade you have in the class even if it's a 92 % you still get a C. Another class that I am in the teacher states more than three absences and I will be dropped. So I'm paying thousands of dollars to the school and there are no set standards? As an adult I believe that you are responsible for your actions and that if I miss a class that I should be responsible for doing whatever worked I have missed and that I should not be dropped from a class cause I missed it more than three times.
These Attendance policies that the school has should be either be a set standard or no standards at all. For a person to pay thousands of dollars for their education it should be up to the school to have set standards and not the teachers.
