Birds might be stressed out too

Walking to my late night math class I noticed a medium sized grey bird with a cigarette butt in the bird's mouth. The thought of it is quite funny, but the sight nearly made me gag. I started to take notice at the large amount of cigarette butts floating in the green grass like ham on peanut butter.

Just the simple fact cigarettes are not a part of nature shows the major concern for the health of our nature. The majority of smokers respects the campus and places the butts in the designated posts, but we have enough smokers who could not care less about the campus and flutter the grass with buds.

Seeing the bird with the cigarette in his mouth was a turning point for me, knowing the harm that nicotine can do to humans, I could only imagine the dreadful effects it would have on an animal. I only hope the bird didn't continue to chew.

I think the Scottsdale Chronicle should write an article on the growing problem of cigarette buds on the grass, maybe putting the disrespectful smokers on the spot will give them a second thought before throwing their bud on the ground carelessly.
