With the softball and baseball season about to kickoff, both head coaches are excited for the scheduled games.
Softball head coach Katie Logan and baseball head coach Alex Cherney are both taking this time to teach their teams to become better athletes and people.
In 2009, Scottsdale’s Artichoke baseball team finished its season placing second in the Men’s Baseball 2009 NJCAA DIV. II Baseball Championship. With the expectations set high for the 2010 Artichoke baseball team, Cherney looking forward to the upcoming season.
“I’m excited. I really like our kids. They’re good people. They (SCC baseball team) work hard and (they’ve) got character,” said Cherney.
The Scottsdale Artichoke baseball team consists of 30 athletes, seven who are returning sophomores.
“Young Team. There will be good days and bad days. We have a lot of growing to do. Expectations are still very high,” said Cherney.
Cherney is dedicated to teaching his group of athletes by improving their baseball skills.
“We’ll have a lot of teaching moments,” said Cherney. “We (baseball coaching staff) try to prepare them to play. A lot of lessons to learn.”
On the girls side is Scottsdale Artichoke softball. Logan is also anticipating the upcoming softball season.
“I’m excited. Great group of young ladies. They have commitment and unity. We (SCC softball team) are going to have a very successful season,” said Logan.
Logan is very pleased with the group of girls she is coaching. A total of 13 females are on the softball team with five returning sophomore players. Logan holds personal management interviews with each sophomore player so that she can have the chance to guide them to become better leaders and athletes.
“Their attitude is phenomenal. They all work really hard,” said Logan.
