Cell user traits agitate fellow students

Cell cartoon

Being a young woman, I feel I have a privileged insight to the mysterious workings of the female mind. However, I cannot figure out why some girls have such annoying cell phone habits.

I am baffled by how some girls are able to juggle books, notebooks and purses while carrying on a conversation in the bathroom.

It’s annoying to hear a girl in the stall next to you making a lunch date and having to say, “Wait, hang on, what?” Over the roaring gurgle-splash-gloooop of the toilet flushing.

Swapping the cell phone from one germy hand to the next; rearranging books, notebooks and purses, opening the unsanitary stall door, holding the cell phone between one shoulder and ear to wash their hands—sound familiar?

Don’t bother washing your hands in the first place if you are just going to touch your filthy phone again.

Ladies, here is how we handle this situation simply: tell the person on the phone that you are running to the restroom and will call them back in a minute. Put the phone safely in your purse free from harm. Ta-da!

I’m sure whatever earth-shattering gossip you are sharing can stand a brief intermission.
By the way, it is obvious when you are talking from a restroom, so don’t think you’re fooling anyone. Everything, and I mean everything, echoes.

Another really agitating cell phone habit I see takes place is at the gym when girls talk on their cell phone or text message while working out.

This is a very ineffective way to workout.

In trying to justify this absurd action I have some theories: 1) these girls feel a sense of popularity talking to people from their phone 2) they feel self conscience, so their phone is reinforcing an accepting social circle 3) they are receiving encouraging text messages from fitness experts 4) they don’t know how to really workout 5) they hope the hot guy in the weights room will see their phone and associate it with asking for their number.
If you want to talk at a gym, bring a friend, or meet new people while you’re there.

Texting and chit-chatting doesn’t get your heart rate up or burn calories. It slows you down because your concentration is divided. You can’t get in the zone if your phone buzzes every 45 seconds.

A periodic text is acceptable and so is listening to music from your phone.

Everybody has been to a party where you have the group of girls who sit around and text all night. It is annoying.

Parties are for socializing and meeting new people, which is very difficult if you seclude yourself in an area and text the entire night.

In fact, nobody really even likes to talk to the “texters” because they aren’t getting involved in the party like everyone else.

Often times these secluded text groups give the impression that they don’t want to be at the party and that the people there aren’t worth their time.

Hopefully girls will develop cell phone etiquette, or at least be aware of their habits.
