Cold and flu season is amongst us and almost everywhere you turn, someone nearby is coughing or sneezing.

Ryan Figueroa, an EMT at Gilbert Hospital said, “Our hospital has a lot of patients that will come in with symptoms such as sore throats, body aches, headaches, coughs and many others. These symptoms are often a version of a cold or the flu.”

Despite the number of people who have the cold and flu, you can protect yourself for getting ill.

Brandy Rodriguez, a resident in Queen Creek, said, “When I wash my hands in a public restroom, I leave the water running and dry my hands and then turn the water off with the paper towel.”

Hand sanitizer is very popular among people in order to stay well.

Chaz Stoerner, an Arizona State University student, said, “We spray germicide on the steering wheels of the cars at my work.”

Figueroa said, “We have soap sinks and sanitizer in every room at the hospital. We use these every time we touch a patient. I am also a big germaphobe so I use paper towels to open doors and turn off sinks.”

Sabrina Gardner, a student at SCC, said, “A bunch of my friends and myself work in the restaurant business so we use hand sanitizer, stay away from kids, don’t lick food off my fingers and sneeze into my shirt instead of my hand.”

Other Arizona residents try to not let the craze going on about the flu get to them.

Christopher Vance, a resident in Snowflake, AZ, said, “I concentrate on being positive and that seems to keep me well.”

Danielle Becker, a resident in Chandler, said, “I don’t really buy into the crazy hype about the flu but its best to stay clean, hydrated and rest, that’s it.”

Using sanitizer, getting rest and taking vitamin C are ways that Arizona residents are staying well during this years’ cold and flu season.
