Scottsdale Community college’s men’s soccer team has a bright future due to its head coach Adam Berry and the rest of the hard working coaching staff.
“Performance depends on how we as a coaching staff teach them,” said Adam Berry, four-year head coach for SCC’s men’s soccer team.
Berry has maintained a close relationship with the team making soccer enjoyable.
“We (soccer coaching staff) have a pretty good relationship with the team but we as a coaching staff have to keep a balance between keeping the team focused and driven. We also want to become better but at the same time not take the fun out of the game,” said Berry.
Throughout this summer the SCC men’s soccer team improved individual soccer skills. As a team, the soccer players had the opportunity to attend a class in the summer where each player participated in the general fitness workout. Each workout consisted of tough conditioning in and out of the gym.
“Soccer class allowed us to work on tactical work as a team, and individual skills,” Berry said.
The summer was full of informative coaching and intense workouts, but Berry has no intention of slowing down. The team continues to have hard practices along with two to three games a week. As Berry puts it, it comes down to practices therefore the coaching staff teaches technical and tactical work to each soccer player.
“Everybody has to know what their job is, they have to be prepared,” said Berry.
SCC's men’s soccer team has not been successful in the previous years, but Berry has been working hard to improve his team. In his first year of coaching the team only had two wins, second season four wins and third season seven wins, seven losses and four ties.
“Times are hard but my purpose is to be focused and point the team in the right direction,” Berry said.
This year’s soccer team has a record of 7-4 and has no intention of slowing down.
“Success has followed. Now we have to maintain that success,” said Berry.
